The COVID-19 lockdown in Sydney last year created the conditions for creativity to flourish. Local Surry Hills café Suzie Q Coffee & Records and local distillery Archie Rose are joining forces to showcase their lockdown creations.

Suzie Q owner and operator Aleks Duric spoke to Urban Village about their upcoming event ‘Archie Rose @ Suzie Q’ which will offer a variety of exceptional food paired with some fantastically innovative cocktails.

This will be the second time Suzie Q and Archie Rose have teamed up, the first occurring just after lockdown last year. The sold-out evening was met with 5 dishes paired with a serries of Archie Rose vodka, gin and whiskey. Due to the success of the occasion, they have teamed up once more.

“Our chefs are exceptionally innovative with their food. Whilst we’ve done wine pairing in the past, wine tends to be a little bit more of a classic, in terms of how the pairing goes. Pairing things with spirits really drives innovation and so we had to think outside the normal boundaries” says Aleks.

This event is a series of monthly dinner events hosted by Suzie Q, which are quickly building a reputation for themselves, particularly for their innovative and delicious food, such as a past meal of fish tacos and pickled strawberries.

Not only can guests expect an evening of excellent food, but they will also be treated to some great cocktails and explanations. Aleks says: “They will certainly learn a lot more about the distilling process. They will be introduced to how gin is made and the different botanicals that go into Australian gin in particular.”

Daniel Hutchins-Read of Archie Rose says: “I’m not going to spoil the surprise in terms of the spirits line-up, but guests can expect a fresh offering of our locally produced, award-winning spirits including some limited editions!”

Patrons will also walk away with a bottle of gin, included in the cover charge.

Next month Suzie Q will team up with Surry Hills local Brix Distillery, followed by a Winter Warmers evening featuring a series of authentic Nepalese curries.

Archie Rose @ Suzie Q will be held on Friday 30 April, from 6:30pm to 10pm. Tickets can be booked here: https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=742386&
