Demand for parking is commonly known to exceed supply. Council are aware of the various reasons people drive with around 44% of households owning a vehicle.
The neighbourhood on-street parking policy review from 2018 is to make sure it meets community needs. The aim is to balance parking demands from residents, businesses and visitors while supporting sustainability.
Proposed updates have been drafted and open for consideration. Your feedback on the draft neighbourhood on-street parking will be preported to Council.

Key facts about the policy:
- There are around 41,300 on-street parking spaces in the local area, not including Central Sydney.
- It provides guidance on time limits.
- It outlines parking permit schemes for residents, businesses, visitors, support workers and carers.
- All fees are reviewed each year as part of our operational plan.
Proposed key changes:
- Eligible households will now be able to purchase up to 50 visitor permits each year.
- New guiding principles to manage competing needs for kerb space, consideration of accessibility and inclusion, and using technology fairly and effectively.
- New sections to manage unrestricted parking, parking for electric vehicle charging and on-street bike parking.
- The policy will align with our current strategies and plans including Sustainable Sydney 2030–2050 Continuing the Vision, access strategy and action plan and electrification of transport in the city strategy and action plan.
