Local Rewards and Surry Hills local camera store Camera Pro are teaming up to launch the first ever Local Lens Photo Comp. The competition offers a rewarding and creative opportunity to explore and celebrate our local precincts.
The team behind Local Lens want to use the competition as a way of emphasising the great sense of community that exists within these areas, and to see these suburbs from the loving eyes of its residents.
The Local Lens Photo Competition runs over the course of one year and is divided into four rounds, each with their own theme. Each round has a submission and judging period that runs over three months.
There are two sections for entries: senior for those aged 16+ and junior for young people 15 years and under. The same theme and time frame is used for both sections.
The competition will be open to photos taken within the City of Sydney precincts of Green Square, Alexandria, Everleigh, Redfern, Waterloo, Surry Hills, Chippendale, Darlinghurst, Glebe, Potts Point, Darlington, Newtown, Pyrmont, Ultimo, Wooloomooloo, St Peters, Barangaroo, CBD, Paddington, Kings Cross, Haymarket and Annandale.
Each round is judged by a locally known photographer, and the theme is based upon their own style. The first judge for the Local Lens Photo Competition is Surry Hills street photographer, Tim Ritchie, with the theme being street photography.
At the end of the year an overall winner will be announced, and there are plans for an exhibition where a selection of the best entries can be shown.
CameraPro will sponsor prizes for both senior and junior categories.
The four minor prizes (for both Senior and Junior recipients) include a 1.5 hour one on one session in store with a member of the Camera Pro team, a 16×24″ print of your photo on Ilford Paper, a free ticket to the Camera Pro in store event of your choosing (valid for 6 months) and a $100 in store voucher.
The two major prizes (for the Junior and Senior overall winner) include a $1500 in store credit to the camera or lens of their choosing fore the Senior prize and an Olympus TG6 for the Junior submission winner.
Local Rewards gift cards and other prizes will also be on offer.
