Pole Athletica on Bellevue Street was the first studio to bring pole dancing lessons to the mainstream fitness industry back in 2004. Pole is one of the best ways to get stronger, fitter, more flexible and boost confidence in a body positive environment.
This week on October 5 Pole Athletica is holding a showcase with a difference. Urban Village caught up with owner Jen about this exciting Athletica first.
“I was visiting my Mum and she happened to mention a collection was taking place at my nephew’s primary school to help out the farmers,” says Jen, whose maternal grandparents were also farmers.
“Not long after, I saw a story on the news and realised just how devastating this drought has been. I thought I’ve got to do my part and help somehow.
“A charity inspired showcase just seemed to make sense as they are such a fun and feel good event. As soon as we announced it to our students, we received a whole lot of requests to perform.”
In an effort to support the struggling farmers in Queensland and Northern NSW, the showcase on October 5 will donate $5 from every ticket sale, as well as a raffle featuring class packs to be won. All proceeds will go to the Buy a Bale campaign, run by Rural Aid. Since its creation in 2013, the Buy a Bale program has delivered over 160,000 bales of hay across 4 states.
“It’s so easy to get caught up in our daily lives of convenience where everything is readily available without any thought as to where our food came from,” says Jen.
“Without farmers, people living in cities would suffer. I think the least we can do is show support for our farmers. We care and they’re not alone.”
Featuring an eclectic mix of solos, duos and group performances, this is set to be an evening full of entertainment and community spirit. “We have an incredible community at Pole Athletica and we’ll dance to make a difference again for sure,” says Jen.
Head down to Pole Athletica on Bellevue Street this Friday to see some incredible local talent and do your bit for our farmers.
